I found some really cool tips in cpumag.com  Just one of these is to make your computer run faster.

Below are some regedt32 mods you might can use:

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL\
PANEL\DESKTOP\MENUSHOWDELAY.) The default Value Data is 400, or 4/10 of a second. Change the Value Data to 0 for the least delay, and click OK.

 Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\
FILESYSTEM. Right-click Filesystem, select New, and DWORD Value. Rename NewValue#1 on the right-side pane to DisableNTFSLast-AccessUpdate. Double-click this new entry, change the Value Data field from 0 to 1, and then click OK.

 To set this, open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\
WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\EXPLORER. Create a new DWORD Value called DesktopProcess, and set its Value Data to 1.

Nice of you to share some tips, now let me offer some as well.

DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR REGISTRY UNLESS YOU ARE 100% COMFORTABLE DOING SO.
DOING SO MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM.

That being said, I think you should elaborate a bit as to what exactly these
registry modifications do.
I for one can see what a couple of them do, but you shouldn't expect people to blindly regedit without detailed explanations.

I second that jafo.

I would love to know what last 2 do, some people may not know what first one does too.

Lots of great tweaks and tips here: http://pcstats.com/
....and I third Jafo, I learned the hard way the importance of backing up your registry before you go "a-tweakin' "
Erunt is a good registry backup tool, but I still make a manual backup before I start changing too many things, also save a known good hardware profile.

DisableNTFSLast-AccessUpdate .....second one does just that...stops the NTFS 'last accessed date' being added to each file...which naturally speeds up the system...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL\
PANEL\DESKTOP\MENUSHOWDELAY controls the refresh rate of the start bar and the All Programs list.

On a personal note, please keep shouting until I actually listen. I need it.

I was unable to access MSN Expl inbox or download mgr because I clicked too many items to be cleaned with ACE. Everything was fine until I cleaned the registry. At least I had it zip it instead of delete. Scary part was I actually had to think about whether I wanted to zip or to just trust the cleaner.

If you insist on messing with the registry make sure you do a File > Export first...

The world is full of amateur brain surgeons...

Hmmmm, I used all three and my computer turned into a rocket ship and blasted off through the window in the general direction of Saturn... quite cool actually.. perhaps I need to buy a new one now..

LMAO..Bichur how profound...

I agree, Listen to Phoon, the registry is not something to be messin around with..unless of course you dont care about your OS..then go right ahead..

"Daddy Always said, best way to learn how somthing works is to break it in a million pieces then try to put it back together"

Wont take long to do just that messin with the reg, be careful.

Zero.

if you know what youre doin why not..but if not, i dont think making a pc faster for just a quarter of a second is worth the risk...but now a day everybody has two pcs, one for practicing and one as main...dont mind tryin` it on my crappy one..

FreshUI http://www.freshdevices.com/freshui.html let you tweak many settings in Windows. You need to register to use it, but it's free.

There are lots of very very cool tweaks you can do from the registry. But of course, if you have only a faint idea about what the registry is, or for example if the letters HKCU don't mean anything to you, then don't touch it with a ten foot pole! But if you're an advanced power user, there are great things you can add or modify in there.

Very true, but then..if you do not venture forth you may never learn..
Some do not have the privaledge of hands on training and must work twice as hard to grasp the workings of the PC all on their own..
Go to the library, read, read, read... get a decent understanding of what your going to dive into before you do..then..when your ready..go for it..at least you will have a fighting chance to fix anything you might break..but that is no way guaranteed...
There are other ways to learn, but I dare not suggest them..LoL
Just take it slow..read..understand..ask questions if you do not understand anything..Once you dive in..you will be committed to being able to get back out..and sometimes thats not as easy as it sounds..

Zero.
